Position Summary:

Cheza Nami is seeking a dynamic and culturally competent Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and charismatic leader with a passion for cultural education and community engagement, particularly within African and diasporic communities. This part-time position requires a leader who can enhance the visibility, financial stability, and community impact of Cheza Nami.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with Cheza Nami’s mission and goals, with a particular focus on expanding cultural and educational programming.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the organization, fostering a culture of innovation, inclusion, and excellence.
• Fundraising and Financial Management:
  • Lead diverse fundraising efforts, including grants, individual donations, corporate partnerships, and digital campaigns to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Oversee budget planning, financial management, and reporting to ensure the effective use of resources.
• Program Development and Management:
  • Oversee the development and execution of culturally relevant educational and outreach programs, ensuring they meet the needs of the community and align with the organization’s mission.
  • Foster relationships with local African diasporic communities to deepen engagement and program participation.
• Community and Public Relations:
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for Cheza Nami, building and maintaining relationships with community partners, donors, and the media.
  • Expand the organization’s reach and visibility through strategic partnerships, marketing, and public relations efforts.
• Board Governance:
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to fulfill the organization’s mission, including supporting the development of board members.
  • Attend board meetings and provide regular updates on organizational progress, challenges, and opportunities.

Qualifications:

– Proven experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit organization, preferably with a focus on cultural education or community engagement.

– Strong cultural competency, with experience working in or with African and diasporic communities.

– Demonstrated success in fundraising, including grant writing, corporate partnerships, and digital campaigns.

– Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting and reporting.

– Exceptional communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.

– A dynamic, charismatic, and collaborative leadership style that inspires and motivates staff, volunteers, and the community.

– Knowledge of or connections within the local community, particularly within African diasporic communities in California, is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Advanced degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

– Experience in marketing, public relations, or social media management.

Time Commitment: Up to 10 hours per week 

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Administrative intern/volunteer provides administrative support to the Board of Directors with duties including but not limited to bookkeeping, cultural program development, and general administrative duties. Reports directly to the CEO of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain inventory system of all organization instruments and props used for cultural programming.
• Develop Update and maintain contact and donor database and organizational calendar.
• Perform basic website updates – news announcements, events e.t.c. 
• Assist with various cultural programs as requested and as responsibilities permit.
•  Perform research on available grants and funding for our cultural programs.
• Assist the Board in the creation of marketing materials such as post cards and brochures.
• Communicate and cooperate well with team members, listening and assessing requested desires of the organization, and assisting to satisfy needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent organization and communication skills.
• Proficiency using the Internet and Microsoft applications. Graphic design software a plus.
• Ability to work independently and be self-directed and also work effectively with a team.
• Enthusiasm for the mission of Cheza Nami.
• A strong interest in non-profit work and community service.
• Extensive administrative experience is not required, but a willingness to learn is a must!

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week 

This Internship position will be a key role for our organization. A minimum of 6-9 months commitment will be needed.

POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Grant Writer and Team Leader you are responsible for increasing support from foundations, corporations, governments, and other grant-making entities. The ideal candidate will have experience in researching funding prospects, writing grant proposals, and securing grants from private sources. As a Grant Writer manage the researching of grant opportunities and the writing of grant proposals, including leading a team to consensus on what grants Cheza Nami should seek, gathering appropriate data when necessary, gaining approval from the board of directors for the submission of final drafts of grant proposals, and meeting grant deadlines. Additionally, the Grant Writer acts as an advisor and key resource to the board on a spectrum of fundraising opportunities. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor’s degree or in progress – Ability to manage large amounts of data, data mining – Foundation Center On Line Directory is a key tool to search capability for this organization. Knowledge of this tool would be desirable.
• Nonprofit, corporate, and foundation grant writing experience with proven results in researching, writing proposals, and securing grants from private entities and federal and state governments or agencies 
• Excellent writing skills and meticulous attention to detail and accuracy 
• Professional demeanor and strong communication and relationship skills 
• Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with individuals at all levels 
• Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines

POSITION OVERVIEW
Help Cheza Nami promote awareness and market our cause by connectivity through web community and content. The Web marketer must understand marketing concepts, search engine optimization and have experience with social media programs, campaigns and projects.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working under the directors direction, must be able to drive Cheza Nami social media programs by building capabilities for Blogging, Discussion Forums, PR and Article Marketing.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Must be very knowledgeable about the character and flow of Internet and Web 
• Experience with navigation, social media tools and technologies 
• Understanding and desire to design and deploy integrated marketing programs using internet 
• Ability to write and edit for website and online communities 

• Strong experience with social media sites (Facebook, YouTube, blogs, Twitter, LinkedIn, podcasts, etc.)
